organic alpine strawberry

Fragaria vesca, Rosaceae

four-season strawberry

This line of alpine strawberry produces small, elongated red strawberries with a strong fragrance all summer long, right up until the frosts. The plants are stolonless and keep well in pots for this reason... Whether in the ground or in pots, you don't want to let this species, which likes moist soil and prefers semi-shade, suffer from drought. Hardy perennial in Zone 4.

Sow between March and June (you won't get fruit the first year anyway), pressing the seeds to the surface of the soil. Keep moist and be patient, as emergence can be slow and uneven. Temperature oscillations (between 5°C and 20°C, for example) can increase the final germination rate. Aim for 40 cm plant spacing in the garden. Offer them a semi-shaded position if you can't keep the soil moist at all times.
