Impatiens balsamina, Balsaminaceae
Balsamine is an annual that thrives in warm, rich, moist soil in sun or light shade. Its characteristic spurred 'hooded' flowers appear at the end of tiny stalks through the leaves in variations of white, salmon pink, red, purple, single or double. In India, nails are dyed red with the juice of the plant and alum. The flowers are reputed to have antibiotic properties and are used to treat abscesses and burns. Used to treat Candida albicans. Erect, bushy habit. 60-75 cm.
