organic winged immortelle

Ammobium alatum, Asteraceae
immortelle des sables, winged everlasting
The winged immortelle is really cute! A tender perennial native to Australia, grown as an annual... It is generally used as a cut flower or for dry bouquets, but its presence is also appreciated in flowerbeds, where its very linear, graphic habit has a structuring effect. Its branched, winged stems are what make it so special in the world of immortals... shooting up from a rosette of white, woolly, silvery leaves. The flowers are a button of white paper that eventually reveals an orange-yellow heart. Cut them young and dry them hanging in an airy corner to immortalize them in the dry, or leave them to delight foraging insects. For a rather dry, sunny site. 0.5 - 1m tall. Approximately 75 days to maturity.

Sow indoors around mid-April:
Press the seeds onto the surface of the potting soil, between 18°C and 21°C, until they germinate, which usually happens within a week. Once your seedlings have hardened off, and after any danger of frost, transplant them to the garden, keeping around 22 cm between plants.
