Milk thistle is a beautiful annual plant with large, fleshy leaves veined with milk-white spots along the main veins. The leaves are eaten in salads when still young and free of thorns. The large flower heads are said to be eaten like artichokes, before opening into beautiful crimson flowers. The seeds are recognized for their beneficial effect on the liver, among other virtues. 90 cm.

Sow thistles in the field after the last frosts, with the seeds barely covered by soil. For more even germination, soak the seeds for 24 hours in a solution of H2O2 peroxide (1.5%). Keep one seedling every 40 cm.
