Common milkweed is a native plant that produces remarkable umbels of pleasantly scented pink flowers in July and August. Beautiful, edible (after taking certain precautions) and utilitarian (recently famous for the insulating plant silk it provides), it attracts many butterflies and pollinators and is the main host plant for the monarch butterfly. It tolerates all types of soil and reproduces by rhizomes while reseeding itself... It can quickly take over a small garden!

Soak the seeds in water for at least 24 hours, then press them into potting soil and keep moist until germination, which will be irregular, improved by cold stratification (in contact with moist potting soil between -4°C and +4°C for 6 weeks) followed by daily temperature fluctuations (ideally: 10°C-15°C). Or, even simpler: sow directly outdoors in autumn!
