organic Costata Romanesco zucchini
$ 4,75
Cucurbita pepo, Cucurbitaceae
Costata Romanesco' zucchini is a far cry from the conventional zucchini you find in the grocery store! It's a traditional Italian variety, ribbed and streaked, pale green on a grey-green background. It's renowned for its excellent cooking properties, sweet flavor and nutty aroma. It has a bushy habit with enormous leaves, prickly stems that are a bit of a pain in the ass, it must be said, and a very good production of male flowers (for eating). It is susceptible to mildew in cool climates. Its productivity is lower than that of contemporary varieties, but it is recognized for its unrivalled taste qualities. Grow it when you're convinced you want to eat the best zucchini there is. Approximately 55 days.
