D'Iberville organic tomato

$ 4,50$ 13,25

Lycopersicon esculentum, Solanaceae

The 'D'Iberville' tomato is a Québec variety that has disappeared from the trade. It's very productive and reliable, and exemplary in its resistance to disease. If ever there was a red tomato, this is it! Its fruits are smooth, in clusters, tasty, not very large: 120 to 200 grams (larger if you limit the number of fruits per cluster). It's a good tomato to eat raw, but also makes an excellent cooked sauce because it's so fleshy. Indeterminate bearing. Ripe fruit is picked 70 days after transplanting.

Anecdote: In 2002, at a Montreal seed festival held in a church in the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce district, a man came up to our table and handed us the precious sachet containing our first D'Iberville tomato seeds, almost begging us to adopt the tomato. I wish I'd had the presence of mind to press him with questions to find out more about the origins of this variety... We simply promised to propagate it, which we've been doing ever since.
