organic dyer's coreopsis
$ 4,50
Coreopsis tinctoria, Asteraceae
Native to the prairies of North America, dyer's coreopsis is a pretty annual plant that tolerates extreme cold, returning year after year of its own accord to the delight of us all, as well as the butterflies and other pollinators that never fail to visit. It can be recognized by its abundant small yellow flowers with mahogany brushstrokes at their center, at the end of long branching stems where the leaves are discreet, airy. Flowering is concentrated in August-September. This abundance of petals is used in artisanal dyeing to obtain warm hues. In the garden, this plant prefers moist soil but will also tolerate drier situations, in sand or clay. For sun or partial shade. 60 cm high, 25 cm wide at maturity. Deer resistant.

Sow in situ either in spring or autumn, burying the seeds very lightly as they germinate better in contact with light. Thin to maintain a vigorous plant every 25-30 cm. You can also sow indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost, but flowering will not be much earlier because of the shock of transplanting... Cut off spent flowers to stretch the flowering period and limit self-propagation, or cut the plant back by 1/3.
