organic Electric Yellow mullein

$ 4,50

Verbascum phlomoides (?), Scrophulariaceae

This large-flowered 'Electric Yellow' mullein was introduced commercially in Canada by one of our inspirers, Kristl Walek, of the late Gardens North in Ontario. The original seeds came from the painter Monet's garden at Giverny, which doesn't surprise us, considering the impressionistic value of these long flower spikes, whose individual electric-yellow flowers are up to 6 cm in diameter, and bloom for a long time! A few rare creamy-white flowers appear here and there... 1.50 m high. Hardy biennial up to zone 3.

Note to botanists who might be able to help us identify it: we're not sure of its botanical identity... The leaves have a small point reminiscent of a Phlomis leaf, as in V. phlomoides, but the flowers are very large, like those of V. densiflorum. Could this be an interspecific cross? There were apparently hybrid mulleins in Monet's garden, including Verbascum x nothum.
