Pilar' is an "unfixed" variety (= variations from plant to plant) frequently grown in Argentina and Uruguay. It's peculiar for a variety of the C. maxima species to produce fruit that is eaten mainly immature, growing on bushy plants, like the patissons that usually belong to the C. pepo species.

Sow in warm soil (min. 21°C), after any danger of frost, 1-2 cm deep. Place 1 to 3 seeds every 90 cm, keeping 1.5 m between rows. Choose one seedling per planting. Allow about 6 weeks from sowing to harvesting.
