Papaver rhoeas, Papaveraceae
rougelle, papavero, rosola da campo, rosolaccio
The poppy is a species of small, red-flowered annual poppy that grows in fields where the soil has been freshly disturbed. Before the flowers appear, when it's only a rosette, we pick the tender, barely hairy red leaves to make a salad with a hint of spiciness. Later in the season, the petals are harvested for winter herbal teas and to put children to sleep, or to make a red cough syrup. Can be reseeded. Up to 1 m high.
