Rudbeckia fulgida var. sullivantii, Asteraceae

black-eyed susan

Easy, hardy, hairy, prolific, flamboyant! This orange-yellow wildflower blooms without respite from summer to frost, and provides visual interest even in winter, when the brown-headed stems stand out against a backdrop of snow... providing a snack for the birds. It's also a popular source of nectar for pollinators and butterflies, and an excellent cut flower. This hardy perennial up to zone 3 can be planted in coarse clay, and tolerates drought once established. For full sun. 45-60 cm high.

[The mother plants of these seeds are of a line reproduced by seed from the excellent cultivar 'Goldsturm' which must be propagated vegetatively to bear its name].
