organic Turkish arugula

$ 5,00

Bunias orientalis, Brassicaceae

roquette d'Orient, bunias d'Orient, turkish rocket

Turkish arugula is a rather rough perennial that tolerates the most difficult growing conditions, such as compacted clays, but must be watched for its propensity to reseed itself generously... We like its pungent arugula taste with a definite bitterness, pleasant as a chiffonade on a pizza, for those who like straightforward tastes. The flowers are yellow and interesting in the landscape for their verticality: for semi-wild gardens only!

Germination is greatly enhanced by scarifying the seeds using the tool of your choice: file, scalpel, sharp penknife, etc., or even a soaking in water or another liquid solution to help soften the hard envelope protecting the seed. Once established, the plant is self-sustaining and self-propagating... a little too much so, unless you cut off the flowering stems before the seeds form!
