Since 2001, La société des plantes has been creating a seed catalog aimed at gardeners and small farmers in northern climates who are looking for hardy, sometimes unusual varieties, and above all, tested in a climate similar to their own. In addition to the dynamic conservation of open-pollinated varieties, we also make our own crosses with the aim of developing new varieties...
All our seeds are in the public domain and therefore reproducible. We do not distribute seeds of genetically modified (GM) varieties.
Our selection protocols focus on the organoleptic qualities of plants, their beauty, ethnobotany, living heritage and gastronomy, as well as resistance to weather and pests. We advocate sustainable development that promotes curiosity, creativity, gastronomic biodiversity and food autonomy. Most of our seeds are produced on site, here at La société des plantes, in Kamouraska, Quebec, where we have been certified organic since 2002. Some seeds come from a regional network of market gardeners, and sometimes from other sources: there are indications to this effect on each product sheet. All seed lots sold undergo annual vigor and germination tests.
