The Bride organic eggplant, dehybridized

$ 4,50

Solanum melongena, Solanaceae

The Bride eggplant is an Oriental variety with tapering fruit and white skin brushed with purplish-pink brushstrokes. They measure around 20 cm in length. Compact plants need no staking. Approx. 90 cm high. This type of eggplant, more elongated than plump, is popular throughout Asia, including Eurasia.

Note: Here in Kamouraska, we have to grow eggplants under cover in a tunnel. Even though this is an early variety of eggplant, this Asian species thrives on heat that simply doesn't occur naturally in our region.

Sow 8 weeks before transplanting outdoors. Eggplant seeds germinate best at 24°C to 32°C, after being rinsed/soaked in very hot water. When germination stagnates, lower the temperature to 20°C, which will stimulate the remaining seeds to germinate. Transplant when the first leaves appear and keep at 20°C until transplanting to the garden. You can lower the temperature to 16°C a week before transplanting to harden them off. Final spacing: 45-60 cm.
