Black knapweed is both food for bees and a beautiful flower to cut. This potentially invasive species is of European origin, naturalized in Quebec. It is a hardy perennial in zone 3, with erect stems that are covered with purplish-red flowers above fat, hairy involucres, from July to September. 30-75 cm tall.

Press seeds onto the surface of moist potting soil (no more than 2 mm deep) and store at 15°C-20°C until germination, which will take up to 15 days. Transplant the seedlings into individual 8 cm pots and, when well rooted, transplant at a minimum of 15 cm between plants.
