Borage seems to contain all the freshness of the seaside in its nectar-filled blue flowers, which appear in profusion all summer and attract a manna of pollinators. It is said that "a garden without borage is like a knight without courage". It has a reputation for scaring away slugs, and in our garden, it's true... we check it regularly; it's handy when you want to let your tomato plants crawl along at ground level! A hardy annual that can be reseeded on the spot. 60-90cm.

Not just a flowering plant, it's also a delectable leafy vegetable: very young leaves in salads and older leaves cooked, in soups, ravioli fillings or as is.
