Carum carvi, Apiaceae

Common caraway is the wild caraway with aromatic seeds that sometimes grows spontaneously in pastures. It's the spice of choice in rye bread, sauerkraut and many other Northern European culinary traditions. In the Bas-du-Fleuve region, it is used to flavor the famous "aniseed" pancakes of the holiday season. Its cycle is biennial, sometimes perennial, so its seeds are harvested from the second year onwards, but in the meantime, its young leaves can be added to your salads.
