organic Gelber Herold foxglove
$ 4,50
Digitalis ferruginea, Scrophulariaceae
rusty foxglove
Gelber Herold foxglove blooms in midsummer, in July and August, when the flowers of its cousin, the purple foxglove, have almost all faded. It thrives in fertile, humus-rich soil, where it reaches spectacular proportions! It brings structure and dramatic expression to the garden... Particularly effective against a dark background such as a wall or shrub hedge.
Its long spikes of small tubular yellow flowers veined with reddish-brown unfurl 4 to 5 feet high with great regularity and generosity. We never tire of admiring the graphic richness of these delicately cut, hairy little mouths.
Its dark, graphic rosettes of glossy, linear leaves are an eye-catcher in the garden, and make a fine ground cover in the first year, before flowering. This plant is generally considered a biennial with a propensity to reseed itself, but it is in fact often perennial and returns a few years from its own roots, even after flowering.
Make bouquets of them, they're an extraordinary cut flower! 150 cm high. An introduction to Jelitto, hardy up to zone 3.
