Gypsophila elegans, Caryophyllaceae

Baby's breath

Elegant gypsophila is the well-known "baby's sigh", one of the most classic cut flowers. This easy-to-grow annual is enjoying a renaissance these days. We're rediscovering its power to transport us into an airy reverie, imbued with elegance. Gypsophila reaches flowering stage quickly, around 50 days after sowing, which means it can be sown later in the season. It's an undemanding plant, tolerating drought well once established, but not at ease in muddy, poorly draining soils. Grows in full sun. 45-60 cm tall.

Sachet: approx. 160 seeds

1 gram: about 1050 seeds

Gypsophila is sown directly in the garden, in spring, by pressing the seeds into the soil surface. Germination takes between one and two weeks, at around 21°C. Leave 15 to 20 cm between plants. We suggest reseeding every 2 weeks, for a constant harvest throughout the season. Transplants can also be started 6 to 8 weeks before the last spring frosts. Harvest when 70 to 90% of flowers have opened.
