Capsicum annuum, Solanaceae

The 'Hot Portugal' pepper is a hot pepper that has adapted very well to cooler regions with shorter summers... We don't know its precise origin, but we do know that it was marketed in the United States as early as 1920. It is an early and productive hot pepper, which ripens well on the plant before frost. Its fruits resemble those of 'Jimmy Nardello', with the same fire-engine red color, elongated shape and sometimes upturned tip, though a little smaller... 2-3 times more pungent than 'Jalapeno' but less so than Cayenne: generally between 5,000 and 30,000, sometimes up to 50,000 on the Scoville scale. Understand that it varies from one individual to another! That's part of its identity. Its thin walls facilitate drying. Maturity: around 65 days after transplanting.
