Elecampane is a very large herbaceous plant with a disheveled yellow bloom at the end of long, 2 m-high stems that birds love to use as perches. It has been cultivated since ancient times for the medicinal properties of its root. It thrives in deep, rich soil, in sun or part shade. Hardy perennial in zone 4. Beware of volunteer seedlings: it can become invasive!
