Lemon Drop pepper
$ 4,75
Capsicum baccatum, Solanaceae
syn. Aji limon
A singular seasoning from a long Peruvian tradition (qillu uchu), it's also a fine specimen that belongs in the ornamental vegetable garden, where its small, 5 to 7 cm peppers shine with thin, slightly crinkled walls, turning from green to a luminous lemon yellow, sometimes with a discreet purplish shading. The titillation provided by its judicious capsaicin content (its spiciness) is combined with a surprising sensation of lemony fruity freshness. A "medium-strong" pepper, between 15,000 and 30,000 on the Scoville scale = power comparable to Tabasco, Serrano and other peppers.
Plants are 2 to 3 feet tall and fruit take at least 100 days after transplanting to reach maturity.
