organic lion's ear
$ 4,50
Leonotis nepetifolia, Lamiaceae (Labiatae)
Wild dagga, klip dagga, lion tail, soldier pompom
Lion's ear has orange velvet flowers that look like tarantulas skewered along its square stem. Their nectar is bittersweet and makes us salivate: it's a sweet poison. We can imitate South Africa's Hottentot and, in homage to them, smoke the flowering tops for their euphoric effect.
A non-hardy perennial grown as an annual, to be sown at the same time as tomatoes. 1 m 50-3 m high. It will grow impressively tall in the right conditions: warm and sunny.
