Mauritanian mallow Zebrina

$ 4,50

Malva sylvestris var. mauritiana (syn. mauritanica), Malvaceae

great mallow, wild mallow, wood mallow, high mallow

Mauritania mallow is a subspecies of wood mallow with more personality than the typical species, and more showy purple flowers, veined and appetizing like a blackcurrant parfait. And these bouquets of semi-double flowers persist for a long time at the end of sturdy stems, from 1 m to 1.50 m high (5 ft.)... Their rounded leaves are edible too, and rich in mucilage, though less tender than those of the curly mallow. It is an emollient, softening and mucosa-protecting plant that can be used to clear the respiratory tract or as a mild laxative, or in any other situation where you want to soothe irritation or inflammation... Or simply to decorate a dessert! Of course!

The veins on the petals of the Zebrina variety are more contrasting than those of the standard Mauritanian mallow.

A hardy annual (sometimes but rarely perennial) that will bloom right up to autumn frosts from spring direct sowing, and resow here and there... so you can move this spontaneous offspring wherever you like... A good garden soil that's not too poor suits it, plenty of sun, and enough space to unfurl its charms. Lightly scarify the seed coat with fine sandpaper before sowing in spring when it's still cool. Sow shallowly and keep moist. Then thin out to leave 45 to 60 cm between plants.
