Delphinium elatum, Ranunculaceae

Candle larkspur, english larkspur

Our larkspur is a wild species from which several garden hybrids have evolved. Its flower spikes are more delicate than those of hybrids, making it easier to use as a cut flower. It can also stand without a stake, even in the high winds of the Kamouraska plain, which is a convincing test. Can flower the first year if sown early, and twice in subsequent years if cut back to 10 cm from the ground after the first bloom. Various blues. 1.5 m-2 m. Hardy perennial.
