Wild Cascades organic foxglove

$ 4,50

Digitalis purpurea, Scrophulariaceae

big foxglove, gant-de-notre-dame, gant-de-bergère, doigtier, gantelée, foxglove

This foxglove with its pink (sometimes white) flowers has an exquisite presence. Its effect is inimitable in gardens where nonchalance has its place... It provides a vertical accent with an enchanting allure. It's a good choice for a semi-shaded area, a clearing, the edge of a woodland, the side of a shady house...

Between the shape of a glove, into which you'd stick your finger, and that of a mouth, showing us its lips delicately flecked as if by traces of foam, its tubular flowers hang elegantly along its long spikes, which rise to 1 m 20. It's a fantastic cut flower, and a garden attraction for pollinating insects, butterflies and hummingbirds.

For sun or half-shade, in soil that's not too dry and drains well... It forms a rosette of leaves in the first year, followed by flowering in the second, in early summer. It sometimes survives a third year, and can also reseed itself. Native to Eastern Europe and naturalized in a few places in North America, including the West Coast in Washington State, where this line originated and made its way to us via our friends at Uprising Seeds. Hardy in zone 4.

Source of digitalis used to treat heart ailments, all parts of this plant are highly toxic and should not be ingested under any circumstances.
